Creator Contracts and Usage Rights: Protecting Both Brands and Influencers

By NexusOne Strategy Desk (Regional Campaign Planning Team) · Published

Reviewing creator partnership agreement and usage rights

The most successful creator partnerships are built on unambiguous written scopes. Before filming begins, both the brand and the creator should align on five operational clauses.

1. Exact Deliverable Specifications

Define aspect ratios (e.g., 9:16 vertical), target duration, required talking points, mandatory hashtags or disclosures, and whether link stickers or bio links are included.

2. Concept and Draft Review Windows

Reviewing a short script outline or storyboard before the creator films prevents costly reshoots. Specify the number of included editing revision rounds (typically one to two rounds for factual or guideline adjustments).

3. Publishing Window and Retention Period

Clarify the target go-live date and how long the organic post must remain visible on the creator's public feed.

4. Organic Reposting vs. Paid Media Licensing

Distinguish between the brand resharing a post on its own organic social page and running the asset with paid media spend behind it. Specify exact licensing durations (30, 60, 90 days, or perpetual for dedicated UGC).
